Superintendent Jay Hummel

Welcome to the Kuna School District!

The Kuna School District’s 2007/2008 school year is already well under way, and it’s proving to be an exceptional year for education in our community.  A number of events have demonstrated the community’s commitment to the education and future of our children.

First and foremost, patrons have once again shown their support for advancing the education of our children by voting to pass September’s bond election.  We are so grateful to our patrons for their support and understanding of the needs of the District in coming years.  With the passage of the school bond, the District will now be able to build another elementary school as well as an alternative school.  We will also be able to complete much needed upgrades on our current facilities, such as the addition of classrooms and an auditorium to the high school.

We also had the opportunity to hear back from the community regarding future uses of the Old Fourth Street Gym.  An estimated 40 to 50 patrons attended a community forum held on November 15th to discuss potential costs of repairs and upgrades, as well as options for future use.   Thank you for your comments, and for communicating your needs and interests during the forum.  Community feedback was presented to the School Board of Trustees, and the District is currently researching the possibility of developing the Old Gym site into a multi-use technology center.

Finally, the Kuna School District is currently in the early stages of developing a plan for building an alternative high school.  This school will provide curriculum that allows for a more flexible course of study for high school students in our district.  We are investigating the possibility of building the alternative high school on the northwest corner of the current Kuna Middle School property.  We would like to gain patrons’ input regarding this idea, and would appreciate your attendance at the Alternative School Discussion Night.  This event will be held in the Kuna Middle School library beginning at 7:00 on the evening of February 5th.  Childcare will be available during the event at the Middle School.
