kunaA generous donation of 100 Acres of Land was received at January's School Board Meeting ~

The Kuna Joint Public School District is pleased to announce the generous donation of 100 acres from Wilma and LaVar Thornton located on East Kuna Road. The Kuna School Board formally recognized and enthusiastically accepted the gift of the Thornton family at their meeting on January 12.

This donation represents a deep commitment to the district’s mission of education and the continued growth of the community.  Wilma Thornton, a former Kuna school teacher, said: “We are grateful that we have been able to do our part to provide for the education of our young people.  LaVar and I wanted to give back to a community that has given us so much.”  Superintendent Wendy Johnson said, “As I humbly receive this gift on behalf of our students, teachers, staff, parents and community, I am again reminded of the generosity of our community and am hopeful for our future.”

The Kuna Joint School District educates approximately 5,300 students.  That number of students has doubled over the last 10 years and is continuing to grow.  With this extraordinary gift to the community, the Kuna School District will work with patrons to ensure the land honors the Thornton’s wishes, saves the taxpayers money and provides for the education of future generations.
