Reed Elementary Library

MARCH
This year, Specials (Library, Music, and P.E.) will be on an A, B, C day schedule, so your child/children will not have specials on the same two days each week. Students should memorize which Special they have on A day, B day, and C day. Then, they will be prepared for their Specials. The lunch menus have A, B, or C in each date box, so students can check it to see what Special they have each day. If you have questions, please call me at 955-0275.
Students are learning the letters and sounds of the alphabet, reading spine labels, reading to me, learning different areas of the library, and using what they have learned to help with shelving Fiction books. I have been reading Easy Fiction picture books to Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. We have also been working on vocabulary words. 2nd grade will be learning how to use the dictionary. 3rd grade will be reviewing dictionary skills and learning encyclopedia skills. 4th, 5th, and 6th grades will be reviewing dictionary, encyclopedia, and atlas skills. The older grades will continue to read their library books silently on their second library time to try to finish their chapter books. When time allows, I will be listening to students read their books.
Please, have your child/children read to you for at least 15 minutes each night. This is a great way for you to know how your child/children are doing with their reading and it gives them one on one time with you. They should read for a total of 30 minutes each night.
If you would like your family to have access to a variety of books to read, I encourage you to sign up at the Kuna Community Library for a library card.
