Homework Expectations

Reading Calendar

Students should read 30 minutes each night.  Parents sign the reading calendar at the end of the month to verify the at home reading.  The turn in date is listed on each month's calendar.  The reading calendar is worth 50 points per month.

Students may choose to read any type of book at home.  Encourage your child to select the types of books he/she is most interested in.  Students may read magazines or newspapers, as well as the books of their choice. This is a time for students to read for enjoyment and practice.  During school time students will be directed toward reading on level and in specific genres.

Writing Journal

Students will be writing at least three days a week in their writing journal.  Students write about anything they would like.  I encourage students to write journal entries, stories, poetry, and letters in this journal.  The purpose is for practice writing.  The journals will be collected weekly and graded for participation.  Students will be using the journal in class and at home.

Late/Missing Assignments

Students who have been absent have two days for each day of absence to make up the work.  It is the responsibility of the student to get missing assignments.  There is a designated place in the classroom for students to get missing assignments and they should ask the teacher for any information they missed during their absence.  Students can make up work during tutorial time or it may be necessary for students to take the work home.

Agenda

Students will write their current grade in their agenda on Thursday of each week.  Teachers will initial their grades.  Parents sign the agenda, and then students bring their signed agenda on Friday.  Students will be given credit for having the agenda signed on Friday.
