Families of room four:
The year continues to fly by and our schedule gets crazier and crazier. Please see the important dates below for your student’s upcoming events.
School News:
Our spring music program is scheduled for May 17th and 18th. Sixth grade parents are invited to attend the May 18th performance at 9:30 a.m. Not only will our students be performing but many of their social studies projects will be displayed as well.
Because of the music program, students who buy lunch that day will receive a sack lunch. It will be cook’s choice and all students will get to have a nice picnic with their friends outside.
Classroom News:
Kuna Middle School counselors will be visiting our classroom on Tuesday, May 8th. They will be giving students registration forms and talking to them about what kinds of classes they will need. Completed registration forms are due on the 11th to me.
We have our last ISAT on the 8th as well. All we have left is math. The 6th grade ISATs this time are in the mornings, so block schedules will be different. Monday and Friday are normal. On Tuesday students will be in block one from 8:30-9:50, block two on Wednesday at the same time, and block three on Thursday. The other teachers and I thought this would be the most efficient use of our time. We will then have homeroom time on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:50-11:30.
We finished reading about the struggle of Mexico’s independence this week. During our studies we came across many people who were important to the development of Mexico’s government. All of those cereal boxes that were brought in are going to be turned into a social studies project. Students will choose one person that we have read about and create a cereal about them. Fun facts and games will be used to teach others about this person’s history. We will be using our homeroom time next week to work on these.
In honor of Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, we talked about what the holiday is for and how people celebrate it today. The day fits nicely with our study of Mexico. We made some delicious cinnamon and sugar tortillas and tested our knowledge on the traditions of Cinco de Mayo.
