Kuna School District students take a variety of assessments to monitor progress toward mastering standards.
Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) by Istation
Students in kindergarten through third grade take Istation in the Fall (September) and in the Spring (May). Parents will receive their child’s results and information about whether their child qualifies for additional support. Learn more about the IRI here.
Idaho Standard Achievement Tests (ISATs)
Students in grades 3-8 and 10th grade take the ISAT English language arts/literacy and math assessments in the spring. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 take the ISAT science assessment. Parents will get access to their child’s results shortly after the end of the school year. Learn more about the ISAT ELA, ISAT Math, ISAT Science, and Alternate ISAT known as IDAA here.
English Language Learner Assessment (ACCESS)
Students who are English Learners take a test every February to see the progress they are making in learning to listen, read, speak and write in English. For more information click this link.
College Entrance Exams
Grade 10 students take the PSAT/NMSQT test in the fall. Grade 11 students take the SAT test in the spring. The tests are free. For more information on the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT, click here.
Engagement Surveys
Students, parents and staff complete an Engagement Survey in February each year. The survey information is posted on the District’s Report Card. For more information on the Surveys and see the questions, click on this link.
Civics
Students must take a civics test as part of their graduation requirement. In Kuna, our students take the U.S. Citizenship test to meet this requirement.. For information on the Civics test, click here..
National and International State Required Assessments
Occasionally, some of our students are selected by the state to take other assessments. One example is the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP allows for the progress of students in all states to be compared. Parents are contacted when their child is select for these tests. For more information click here.
Alternate Assessments
Some students, based on their learning needs, take modified tests.
- IRI for grades K-3
- ISAT ELA, Math for students grades 3-8 and 10 and Science, grades 5, 8, and 11
- ACCESS for ELLs for students grades K-12
