Kuna families

Following up from our message last night after the school board meeting, here are instructions on how to make a choice for your child(ren) in grades 6-12 for 4th quarter.

If you DON’T want to change to an every day schedule and stay hybrid or online only, no action is needed.

If you DO want to change. It’s easy! Just:

  • Log into your Tyler Parent Portal Account or Student 360 app
  • Look for “New optional e-Forms are available” click “view”
  • Click on the “Q4 6-8 Selection” or “Q4 9-12 Selection” and
  • Make your choice

If you want to change your child to an every day schedule, you MUST log on to your Tyler Parent Account and make the selection by March 15.

If you have questions, please contact your child’s school.

Thank you!

Kuna Parents & Staff

Tonight, our Board of Trustees approved a plan for our secondary students (6-12) for the remainder of the school year. This change will take effect at the start of the 4th quarter April 5.

I want to commend the members of the 6-12 Advisory Task Force for their hard work. Each member dedicated 16+ hours of their personal time over four days to meet and work together to identify solutions and find consensus.

Thanks to the diversity of the group, they brought forward all the concerns of our community and each was discussed.

Three task force members -- Kristi Hardy, parent; Jessica Anno, teacher; and Hunter Warnick, student -- presented the group’s recommendations tonight which include three options for the Board to consider.

The Board chose Option D. In this option, families will have two choices for their secondary student(s):

  • Attend in person learning five days a week with Friday as an early release day OR
  • Continue in Blue/Gold hybrid model

What’s next? Parents will get an email with instructions on how to make a choice for their child(ren) tomorrow. Please talk with your child(ren) about the choices. You may make different choices for each child.

Choices must be made by March 15 to allow schools time to prepare schedules.

This change would start Monday, April 5 when the 4th quarter begins. To support teachers, Monday, March 29 will be a work day and a no school day for students. This replaces the May 14 teacher inservice day.

I understand that parents will have many questions. We appreciate your patience as schools work hard in the coming days to communicate next steps and prepare schedules for students.

Secondary parents and staff

Monday, the Board of Trustees met to discuss concerns about its recent decision to continue the hybrid schedule for our secondary schools until the end of the school year.

Trustees authorized me to form a task force to reflect on what we have learned from the pandemic, investigate options  for students in grades 6-12 in order to make a recommendation to the school board on some best practices that we can implement this current school year and future school years.

The 6-12 Advisory Task Force is composed of parents, teachers, administrators and a student (full committee listed below) who represent diverse viewpoints about next steps for our secondary students.

The task force will meet for the first time from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25.

We will post agenda and the notes from the group’s meetings on this site:

We appreciate each of them and their willingness to give up their personal time for this important work.

Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 Update

Kuna Parents

This Friday, Feb. 12 will be an “e-day” for all grades. Students will not attend school in person that day. Your child will get more information from their teacher(s) about what to do on this day.

We apologize for the unexpected change in the schedule. Here’s why:

This is a proactive step. We have 144 staff who will get their second dose of the COVID vaccine Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and may need to stay home if side effects of the vaccine develop. Looking at the potential impact, we wouldn’t have enough subs to cover Friday’s absences.

According to Central District Health, side effects are normal, particularly from the second dose of the vaccine. Individuals with symptoms aren’t contagious but for a day or two they may not feel well enough to come to work.

We don’t expect that this will happen again and we greatly appreciate your understanding.
