Idaho’s English Language Proficiency Assessment is administered annually every spring to calculate growth and proficiency for English Learners (ELs). All districts that serve ELs are held accountable to these growth and proficiency measures.

The annual ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 is aligned with the WIDA English Language Development Standards, and is a measure of the ELLs' proficiency and progress in learning English in the language domains of Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing.

When is Access for ELLs given?

Students within the Kuna School District who meet the requirements for ACCESS 2.0 for ELLs assessments will participate in this assessment from 2019 to 2020.

Why is Access for ELLs given?

The purpose of Access for ELLs is to:

  • Helps students and families understand students’ current level of English language proficiency along the developmental continuum.
  • Serves as one of multiple measures used to determine whether students are prepared to exit English language support programs.
  • Generates information that assists in determining whether ELLs have attained the language proficiency needed to participate meaningfully in content area classrooms without program support.
  • Provides teachers with information they can subsequently use to enhance instruction and learning in programs for their English language learners.
  • Provides districts with information that will help them evaluate the effectiveness of their ESL/bilingual programs.
  • Meets, and exceeds, federal requirements for the monitoring and reporting of ELLs' progress toward English language proficiency.

Where and when are results available to parents?

Students scores are reported in May each year.  In order to secure your child’s data, we have made the score reports available to you through Tyler, our student information system. When you log into the Tyler Parent Portal, click on the documents tile to see your child’s actual score report. Clicking on the assessment tile will show you a summary of all assessment data on your child.
