Kuna School District students take a variety of assessments to monitor their progress toward mastering standards.

Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) by Istation

Students in kindergarten through third grade take Istation in the Fall (September) and in the Spring (May). Parents will receive their child’s results and information about whether their child qualifies for additional support. Learn more about the IRI here.

Idaho Standard Achievement Tests (ISATs)

Students in grades 3-8 and 10th grade take the ISAT English language arts/literacy and math assessments in the spring. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 take the ISAT science assessment. Parents will get access to their child’s results shortly after the end of the school year. (approximately the first week of June)  Check back for more information about how to access those scores.

2024 ISAT Parent Brochures:  These documents explain students' scores on ISAT ELA and Math, ISAT Science, IDAA-ELA & Math, and IDAA Science in both English and Spanish.

English Language Learner Assessment (ACCESS)

Students who are English Learners take a test every February to see the progress they are making in learning to listen, read, speak, and write in English.  For more information click this link Idaho Department of Education's website

Additional languages are available by contacting KSD Assessment or your student's ELL Teacher.

College Entrance Exams

Grade 10 students take the PSAT/NMSQT test in the fall.  Grade 11 students take the SAT in the spring. The tests are free.
Click on these links for more information on the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT

Engagement Surveys

Students, parents, and staff complete an Engagement Survey each spring.  These surveys are required by the Idaho Department of Education.

Students must take a civics test as part of their graduation requirement. In Kuna, our students take the U.S. Citizenship test to meet this requirement. For information on the Civics test, click here to go to the Idaho Department of Education's Civic's page.

National and International State-Required Assessments

Occasionally, some of our students are selected by the state to take other assessments. One example is the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP allows for the progress of students in all states to be compared.  Parents are contacted when their child is selected for these tests. For more information click here to National and International State-Required Assessments.

Alternate Assessments

Some students, based on their learning needs, take modified tests.

  • IRI for grades K-3
  • ISAT ELA, Math for students grades 3-8 and 10, and Science for grades 5, 8, and 11
  • ACCESS for ELLs for students grades K-12

For more information about these tests, click here to Alternate Assessments

District Assessments

In addition to classroom exams, our teachers use other tests to check student skills and knowledge. For more information about the District assessments your student may take, talk with your student’s teacher and/or principal.
