Cheetah Chatter

September 12, 2025

Our students have been completing their benchmark literacy and math assessments. These assessments provide us with insights into their progress and areas for growth.

We are continuing to establish strong learning routines in the classroom and focus on our grade level standards.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help every child succeed!

Today is National AVID Day!

WICOR is a core instructional framework used within AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), and it absolutely applies to elementary schools—though it looks a bit different than at the middle or high school level. WICOR stands for:
  • Writing
  • Inquiry
  • Collaboration
  • Organization
  • Reading
These are the five key skills AVID promotes to help students become active learners, critical thinkers, and college- and career-ready, starting from a young age.

Bikes, Scooters, and Wheels: Campus Guidelines

To help keep all students, families, and staff safe, we ask that no motorized bikes, scooters, segways, or similar devices be used on campus. Additionally, all bikes and scooters must be walked—not ridden—while on school grounds, including sidewalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, and blacktops. For safety reasons, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar items are not permitted on campus during school hours. Thank you for supporting a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!

Help to Manage Your ParentSquare Account

Are you overwhelmed with the number of emails, texts, and app notification you are getting from ParentSquare? Set your notifications to Digest and you will receive one email and/or one text and/or one app notification providing access to all ParentSquare information at the end of the day. Note: If you receive notification by email, you'll receive a daily digest email from your district and schools separately if there are posts that day.

Cell Phones & Smart Watches

Reed is focused on learning! We want to prioritize instruction time and allow recess to be time for face-to-face social interaction.

For this reason, we ask that any student with a cell phone/Smart device leave them in their backpacks and off during the school day (exception: documented medical uses).

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!

Frequently Asked Questions about cell phones and smart watches

Do all Kuna Schools have the same policy for cell phones?
  • Yes. Kuna School District instituted a new policy of cell phone-free school days at all schools.

What if my child needs to contact me during the school day?
  • Students can come to the office to call parents on our office phone during the day if they need to.

What if there's a school emergency and I want to know that my child is OK?
  • We know it's a scary world. We have students keep their phones in their backpacks for exactly that reason--if there is a school emergency, their phones are easily accessible.

I have my child wear a smart watch so I can track their location. Is that OK? When can they contact me on it?
  • They can leave it in their backpack, but under special circumstances they can wear it during the day at school as long as they don't use it as a cell phone (texting, pictures, etc.). If found in use, it will need to go into their backpack.
  • They can use it before they get on Reed school grounds--outside the school fences only--both before and after school.

How can I find out more about how cell phone or smart watch use effects children?
  • Consider following "Officer Gomez" on social media--he gives great parent tips, conversation starters, and warnings from the mindset of an Idaho School Resource Officer.
  • Consider reading the book, "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haite.

My student is being bullied in text messages outside of school by other students at school. What can I do?
  • Block the students who are bullying your student.
  • Consider putting in place strict guidelines for cell phone use for your child, like no phones in room, no phones after 8:00 PM, checking regularly your child's text message and game messages on your child's phone, and/or other protective measures.
  • If the bullying is carrying over into school, let the teacher or vice principal know.

Pick Up, Drop Off, and Parking Lot Safety

  • Safety of your child(ren) is our priority. Please pick up and drop off your child in the designated areas.
  • NO drop-off/pick-up in the bus lane.
  • No traffic or parking allowed in the bus lane.
  • Please pull forward as far as you can. Students will use the sidewalks to get to the building/playground at the beginning of the day and again to get to you car at the end of the day.
  • If you plan to walk up to pick up your students, please park in a parking spot in the parking lot and use crosswalks.
  • Drop off may begin no earlier than 8:30 AM.
  • Use designated cross walks to access the parking lot or playgrounds.
  • Be patient, especially as we start the school year and the pick up/drop off routine are new to many families.
  • Call the office by 2:00 PM if there will be a change in the way your child will normally go home so the teacher can be made aware of the change in plans.
