Safety Protocols at Kuna Middle School

Safety and security are of the utmost importance at Kuna Middle School. You may have noticed several security measures in place at our school. Parents have to "buzz-in" at the front door of the school to enter, all perimeter doors of the school are locked at all times, staff are on duty inside and outside throughout the day, we have an SRO, and dedicated security personnel. Students and staff must also wear their ID when in the halls. We also practice safety drills often.

Kuna School District follows the Idaho Standard Command Responses for Schools (ISCRS) for emergency procedures. This is standard responses for:
Hall Check: classroom & office doors are locked, teachers continue teaching, students are not allowed in the halls.
Lock Down: classroom & office doors are locked, teachers and students shelter silently out of sight in the classroom with lights off.
Evacuation: also known as a fire drill.
Reverse Evacuation: during recess or before school, student re-enter the building to a specific class.

Academic Supports

The staff at Kuna Middle School is committed to helping our students succeed academically! We have many programs and resources designed to give your child the support they need to do well in school. We encourage all families to use these resources. Together, we can help our students reach their academic goals.

Tutor.com

Tutor.com is an online service that connects students with live tutors to help them with schoolwork. Think of it like a library study room, but it's on the internet and you can get help any time of the day or night. It's designed to give students one-on-one help to understand tough subjects and finish their homework.

WIN Time

WIN Time stands for "What I Need." It's a special time built into the school day to provide every student with personalized support. It allows teachers to give extra help to students who are struggling, and offer challenging and interesting activities to those who are on track. We started our WIN Time this week. WIN is attached to student's 3rd period class and students move to the appropriate class based on academic data.

Teacher Office Hours

Teacher office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30-3:15pm. Students can get extra help from their teachers outside of class time. These sessions allow students to work with their teacher one-on-one or in a small group. Students can ask specific questions about homework or tests, and teachers can explain things in new ways.

Weekly Grade Checks

Kuna Middle School will check grades for all students every Friday during Advisory. Parents will receive an email with their child's grades every Friday evening. We encourage you to spend a few moments each weekend reviewing your child's academic progress with them.
Keeping an eye on your child's grades is an important way to stay updated on how they are doing and to find any areas where they may need extra help. By checking in weekly, you can help them stay on track to meet their learning goals.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to their teachers. The best way to contact teachers is through ParentSquare direct message.
We are here to work together and provide the support your student needs to succeed.

Advisory Update

Mental Health Awareness Week

This week in advisory, our focus was Mental Health Awareness. Students took part in activities that highlighted the importance of kindness, gratitude, and connectedness. Teachers were especially impressed by the many acts of kindness we saw throughout the week.

Some highlights included our school gratitude wall, where students shared notes of appreciation and positivity, and the “You Can Sit With Us” campaign, which encouraged students to reach out and include others. On Wednesday, students showed their support by wearing pink, creating a strong visual reminder of unity and care in our school.

Students also reflected on the people in their lives they feel most connected to, discussed how thoughts and feelings influence one another, and practiced strategies for staying positive.

We are especially grateful to our CAST and Sources of Strength groups for helping make this week meaningful for all students. It was a powerful week of reflection, connection, and community building.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is important for success in school. Students should be present as much as they can. If your child needs to miss school because they are sick or due to a family issue, please let the school know as soon as you can. You can excuse your child in these ways:

If you get a notification from Parent Square that your child is absent, you can reply to that message to excuse them.
If you are notified that your student is absent during the day, you can also message the teacher through ParentSquare with questions.

Excessive Tardies

Being on time is a life skill we emphasize at Kuna Middle School. If a student is tardy (late) to one class 5 times in one week or 5 times total to any class in one week, they will receive a lunch time detention. If there is a reason that the student is late, they should communicate that to their teacher.

Parking Lot Drop Off & Pick Up

Important Reminder for Our KMS Community
To keep our students safe during busy pick-up and drop-off times, please follow these guidelines:

  1. Drive Slowly and Carefully: Always watch for students, crossing guards, and other cars.
  2. Use Designated Zones: Please use the pick-up and drop-off areas and avoid double parking to keep traffic moving smoothly.
  3. Use Crosswalks: Encourage your student to use crosswalks and avoid walking through the parking lot.
  4. Be Patient and Courteous: Let’s be kind and support each other during these busy times.
By following these safety rules, we can help keep our school community safe. Thank you for your cooperation in protecting our young Kavemen!

A Note from Our Principal, Ms. Wilson

Dear Students, Families, and Staff,

When students are involved in activities at school they are more likely to be academically successful and develop age appropriate social skills. Kuna Middle School offers many opportunities for sports, extra curricular activities and clubs. We encourage your child to get involved!

Girls Basketball Tryouts start on October 6th and Wrestling Tryouts start on October 9th.

Currently our clubs include Pokémon, Dungeons & Dragons, Art, Beyblades, and Chess. Listen to the announcements or look for fliers around school about when clubs meet.

Have a great weekend! Go Kavemen!
