Advisory Update

Preparing for Student-Led Conferences

This week, students have been busy preparing for Student-Led Conferences (SLCs). Each student has been collecting artifacts and reflecting on how each artifact demonstrates their growth and learning this year. These reflections help students think deeply about their progress and prepare to communicate it confidently during their conference.

Next week, students will complete several reflection activities designed to help them lead meaningful conversations with their families. These activities will lead students in:
  • Identifying strengths and successes in their academic performance.
  • Reflecting on challenges and what they’ve learned from them.
  • Reviewing assessment data (ISAT and i-Ready) to identify trends and set goals.
  • Setting academic goals and outlining action steps they will discuss and finalize with parents during their conference.
  • Evaluating work habits and learning behaviors to reflect on areas such as preparedness, focus, and teamwork.

By the time conferences begin, students will have a complete portfolio and a clear set of talking points.

If your family has not yet scheduled a conference time, please refer to your child’s advisory teacher’s post for scheduling details.

Academic Supports

We have several programs and resources designed to give your child the support they need to do well in school. We encourage all families to use these resources. Together, we can help our students reach their academic goals.

Tutor.com

Tutor.com is an online service that connects students with live tutors to help them with schoolwork. Think of it like a library study room, but it's on the internet and you can get help any time of the day or night. It's designed to give students one-on-one help to understand tough subjects and finish their homework.

Teacher Office Hours

Teacher office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30pm-3:15pm. Students can get extra help from their teachers outside of class time. These sessions allow students to work with their teacher one-on-one or in a small group. Students can ask specific questions about homework or tests, and teachers can explain things in new ways. Please note, there is no afterschool transportation.

WIN Time

WIN Time stands for "What I Need." It's a special time built into the school day to provide every student with personalized support. It allows teachers to give extra help to students who are struggling, and offer challenging and interesting activities to those who are on track. WIN is attached to student's 3rd period class and students move to the appropriate class based on academic data.

Grade Checks

Kuna Middle School will check grades for all students every Friday during Advisory. Parents will receive an email with their child's grades every Friday evening. We encourage you to spend a few moments each weekend reviewing your child's academic progress with them.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please reach out to their teachers through ParentSquare direct message.

Student Attendance

Student attendance is important for success in school. If your child needs to miss school because they are sick or due to a family issue, please let the school know as soon as you can. You can excuse your child in these ways:

If you get a notification from Parent Square that your child is absent, you can reply to that message to excuse them.
If you are notified that your student is absent during the day, you can also message the teacher through ParentSquare with questions.
