Advisory Update

This week in Advisory, we focused on welcoming students back and resetting expectations for the second half of the year. On Monday, students participated in a fun “Welcome Back” BINGO activity, giving them the opportunity to reconnect with peers and share highlights from winter break.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Advisory time was used to review schoolwide expectations and key procedures to help students start the semester focused and prepared. To wrap up the week, students created their own Goal BINGO cards on Friday, allowing them to identify both academic and personal goals they want to work toward moving forward. As students work toward their goals, they will track their progress by marking completed goals on their BINGO cards. Students who earn a BINGO will receive.

AVID Spotlight

Teachers Utilizing AVID Strategies Schoolwide

During Monday’s professional development, Mrs. Mathias, our AVID teacher, led staff through strategies for incorporating Cornell notes into daily instruction. Teachers practiced the process and created a student-friendly poster to display in their classrooms.

Several teachers have already begun implementing Cornell notes this week. In Earth Science, teachers guided students through taking notes on relative dating, followed by a video that allowed students to add and refine their notes. Students then used information from both sources to write a summary, reinforcing understanding and synthesis of content.

A chart titled 'I Can...' with sections for Vocabulary Term, Information, Picture, Models, and Summary.
Handwritten notes on 'Relative Dating' explaining how to estimate the age of rocks and fossils by comparing their positions.

WIN

(What I Need)

WIN Time & iReady MyPath

Students are in their last WIN group for the semester. In December, students took a Reading Diagnostic Assessment and In January they will take a Math Diagnostic Assessment in iReady. From these updated assessments, students will be placed in their WIN groups for second semester.

During WIN time, students are provided with individualized support and enrichment in Ready and Math skills. We are going to provide more enrichment activities for advanced students during second semester.

We use resources from iReady and MyPath to provide instruction during WIN time. Research shows that students who spend 45 minutes on MyPath a week and who participate in iReady lessons grow more than typical on their ISAT scores each year.

Students can work on MyPath at home!!
