Our Funny Kids!

Ross students are so much fun!

This week, we worked on Community as our core value. Next week, we'll work on Innovation. Our students are learning to be great at both.

For Community, students have the chance to come in during recess times to the office and submit "nominations" of their fellow students or staff members to celebrate the good things they see others doing. Each day on the morning announcements, we read 4-6 nominations, everything from "Helping a student who was sad," to "Helping a classmate learn Math." Students also honor things they appreciate about their teachers. It's such a great way to start the day school-wide! Ask your student if they've been nominated or if they've nominated someone else.

Our students are also so proud of their Innovation. They build amazing towers with our life-size Tetris game. They've been submitting so many Lunch Club and CAST applications.

Today at recess, they had fun using some interesting slang that we usually don't hear until middle school. They heard the numbers "67" in a Math lesson and it was all over from there. In case you're wondering where to find out what all the slang you might hear means, consider following "Mr. Lindsay" on social media. He's a middle school teacher that posts the funny things he hears from kids throughout the week from school.

These kids are creators and community builders. We love them!

Innovation opportunity: Seeking pictures of students with an animal they've raised

We're building a future farmers/ag workers bulletin board at school and would love to get some pictures of our Rossome young farmers and ranchers with the animals they've raised.

Please submit a picture to Mrs. Tripp if you have one you'd like included on our bulletin board.

Cell phones and smart watches

ross is a learning zone

Ross is a Learning Zone!

Ross is a learning zone. We want to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.

For that reason, we have any students with cell phones leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for medical uses). Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).

If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Rossome kids!

Frequently Asked Questions about cell phones and smart watches

Do all Kuna Schools have the same policy for cell phones?
  • Yes. Kuna School District instituted a new policy of cell phone-free school days at all schools.

What if my child needs to contact me during the school day?
  • Students can come to the office to call parents on our office phone during the day if they need to.

What if there's a school emergency and I want to know that my child is OK?
  • We know it's a scary world. We have students keep their phones in their backpacks for exactly that reason--if there is a school emergency, their phones are easily accessible.

I have my child wear a smart watch so I can track their location. Is that OK? When can they contact me on it?
  • They can wear it during the day at school as long as they don't use it as a cell phone (texting, pictures, etc.).
  • They can use it before they get on Ross school grounds--outside the school fences only--both before and after school.

How can I find out more about how cell phone or smart watch use effects children?
  • Consider following "Officer Gomez" on social media--he gives great parent tips, conversation starters, and warnings from the mindset of an Idaho School Resource Officer.
  • Consider reading the book, "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haite. If you need a copy, please reach out to Mrs. Tripp for support.

My student is being bullied in text messages outside of school by other students at school. What can I do?
  • Block the students who are bullying your student.
  • Consider putting in place strict guidelines for cell phone use for your child, like no phones in room, no phones after 8:00, regular text message and game messenging checks on your child's phone, and/or other protective measures.
  • If the bullying is carrying over into school, call Principal Tripp.

Drop Off/ Pick Up Reminders

  • Safety of your child(ren) is our priority. Please pick up and drop off your child in the designated areas.
  • Be patient, especially as we start the school year and the pick/up drop off routines are new to many families. We will have staff to support you and others outside.
  • No drop off/pick up in the bus lane.
  • Drop off may begin no earlier than 8:30am.
  • Pick up line will be along School Avenue from the south of the school to the entry into the parking lot. Do not park and leave your car along School Avenue from 3:00-3:45pm when school pick up is done.
  • If you need to park for pick up, please park on School Avenue to the north of the parking lot entrance so you don't block the pick up line.
  • Pull forward as far as you can. At the end of the day, students will be waiting for your car to arrive near the front of the line to load in your car.
  • Use designated cross walks to access the parking lot or playgrounds.
  • Call the office by 2:00pm if there will be a change in the way your child will normally go home so the teacher can be made aware.
