Principal's Message

Cheetah Families,

A quick reminder about conferences: Teachers have sent out their schedules, so please be sure to sign up for a time slot on October 8th from 2–7 PM or October 9th from 2–6 PM. Both days will be early release days with dismissal at 1:30 PM.

Please also mark your calendars for our school book fair, which will take place October 6–9. More information can be found in the flyer below! You won't want to miss it!

Also, please remember there is no school on Friday, October 3rd, and no school for students on October 10th due to a teacher workday.

Thank you again for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to seeing you at conferences!

Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Moore

Donations needed

We are currently in need of donations of new underwear for both boys and girls in a variety of sizes. The supply we had at the beginning of the year has already been used, and we would greatly appreciate any contributions you are able to make.

We also have used our supply of x-small, small, and medium shorts, pants, and leggings. If you have new or gently used shorts, pants, and leggings, we would appreciate those donations as well.

Additionally, if your child occasionally has accidents, we kindly ask that you send a change of clean clothes (including underwear) in their backpack to help them feel more comfortable throughout the day.

Thank you for your support and generosity!

chocolate basket

Reed's Chocolate Basket still needs donations!

Thank you to the staff and families who have sent in items for our Kuna Education Foundation Chocolate Auction Basket. We will continue to collect items until October 13. We would love to add more items to our basket, which will soon be up for auction. Drop off items at the main office and we will add them to Reed's basket!

The Kuna Education Foundation 2nd Annual Themed Basket Auction will be held October 21 - 31! You will be able to place your bids at  KEF Basket Auction.

Cooler Weather is Coming

As the weather begins to cool, we want to remind families to send students to school with jackets or coatsPlease make sure your child’s name is written inside, as this helps us return lost items quickly. We have several items that are already accumulating in the lost and found. If your child is missing an item, please encourage them to check the lost and found.

AVID! C: Collaboration

WICOR is a core instructional framework used within AVID.

C: Collaboration

Collaboration involves students working together to solve problems, share ideas, and deepen understanding. AVID strategies promote structured collaboration, not just group work.
Examples of Collaboration Strategies:
  • Socratic Seminars
  • Think-Pair-Share
  • Jigsaw activities
  • Philosophical Chairs
  • Group projects with assigned roles
  • Peer editing and feedback sessions

Cell Phones & Smart Watches

Reed is focused on learning! We want to prioritize instruction time and allow recess to be time for face-to-face social interaction.

For this reason, we ask that any student with a cell phone/Smart device leave them in their backpacks and off during the school day (exception: documented medical uses).

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!

Frequently Asked Questions about cell phones and smart watches

Do all Kuna Schools have the same policy for cell phones?
  • Yes. Kuna School District instituted a new policy of cell phone-free school days at all schools.

What if my child needs to contact me during the school day?
  • Students can come to the office to call parents on our office phone during the day if they need to.

What if there's a school emergency and I want to know that my child is OK?
  • We know it's a scary world. We have students keep their phones in their backpacks for exactly that reason--if there is a school emergency, their phones are easily accessible.

I have my child wear a smart watch so I can track their location. Is that OK? When can they contact me on it?
  • They can leave it in their backpack, but under special circumstances they can wear it during the day at school as long as they don't use it as a cell phone (texting, pictures, etc.). If found in use, it will need to go into their backpack.
  • They can use it before they get on Reed school grounds--outside the school fences only--both before and after school.

How can I find out more about how cell phone or smart watch use effects children?
  • Consider following "Officer Gomez" on social media--he gives great parent tips, conversation starters, and warnings from the mindset of an Idaho School Resource Officer.
  • Consider reading the book, "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haite.

My student is being bullied in text messages outside of school by other students at school. What can I do?
  • Block the students who are bullying your student.
  • Consider putting in place strict guidelines for cell phone use for your child, like no phones in room, no phones after 8:00 PM, checking regularly your child's text message and game messages on your child's phone, and/or other protective measures.
  • If the bullying is carrying over into school, let the teacher or vice principal know.

Pick Up, Drop Off, and Parking Lot Safety

  • Safety of your child(ren) is our priority. Please pick up and drop off your child in the designated areas.
  • NO drop-off/pick-up in the bus lane.
  • No traffic or parking allowed in the bus lane.
  • Please pull forward as far as you can. Students will use the sidewalks to get to the building/playground at the beginning of the day and again to get to you car at the end of the day.
  • If you plan to walk up to pick up your students, please park in a parking spot in the parking lot and use crosswalks.
  • Drop off may begin no earlier than 8:30 AM.
  • Use designated cross walks to access the parking lot or playgrounds.
  • Be patient, especially as we start the school year and the pick up/drop off routine are new to many families.
  • Call the office by 2:00 PM if there will be a change in the way your child will normally go home so the teacher can be made aware of the change in plans.
